Analytic Performance Evaluation of the RED Algorithm for QoS in TCP/IP Networks

چکیده
The Random Early Detection algorithm is considered as a promising algorithm for Differentiated Services to cope with feedback oriented traffic like TCP. In this paper, we model the salient features of TCP and RED and evaluate the model using a discrete-time analysis. The novelty of our investigation is the analytic approach to the composed model, i.e., TCP feedback traffic over a RED queue. Deriving not only mean values but also distributions for the performance measures, we obtain insights of the behaviour of TCP under RED.

Tcp/ip over Atm - Performance Evaluation and Optimisation
The integration of TCP/IP and ATM is a challenging architectural issue in today’s global networks, where the unique properties of ATM technology can be combined with the TCP/IP mature and well-proven protocol suite. A rigorous characterisation of the performance of TCP/IP over ATM can be a powerful tool for the efficient use of both technologies. TCP error and flow control mechanisms were desig...
متن کاملA Novel Fuzzy Logic Base Scheduling Mechanism for Service Differentiation in IP Networks
Quality of Service (QoS) refers to a set of rules or techniques that help the network administrators use the available network resources optimally to manage the effects of congestion and to treat the applications according to their needs. The differentiated services architecture (DiffServ) allows providing quality of service to users. The major DiffServ premise is that individual flows with sim...
متن کاملA Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)
Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF, meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....
متن کاملOn the Performance Modelling and Optimisation of DOCSIS HFC Networks
The DOCSIS protocol defines the MAC and physical layer operations governing two-way transmission of voice, video and multimedia data over HFC cable networks, thus constituting a complex system with many interdependent parameters. This tutorial employs simulation and analytic methodologies for the performance modelling and optimisation of DOCSIS 1.1/2.0 HFC networks with particular focus on the ...
متن کاملA Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks
Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...
